Athens, Greece - January 2026
The DETANGLE project officially started on 1 January 2026, bringing together a multidisciplinary European consortium to address one of today’s most pressing cybersecurity challenges: the effective implementation of
EU cybersecurity legislation and compliance requirements.
While EU cybersecurity regulations are essential for strengthening Europe’s digital resilience, their practical implementation remains complex - particularly for SMEs, operators of essential services, digital service providers, CSIRTs, and security operations centres. DETANGLE responds to this challenge by delivering an integrated platform and framework designed to support compliance, certification, incident management, and cross-border collaboration in a practical and operational manner.
Funded under the Digital Europe Programme (DEP) and supported by the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre, the DETANGLE project brings together 14 partners from 8 EU countries. The consortium includes research organisations, cybersecurity authorities, technology providers, SMEs, and specialised consultancies, combining regulatory expertise, operational cybersecurity experience, and advanced technological know-how to develop essential tools for cybersecurity compliance and certification in the European digital market.
DETANGLE is an innovation project with the mission to untangle the web of EU cybersecurity regulations and help organisations simplify, connect, and strengthen their defences in the digital era. The project aims to make cybersecurity compliance and collaboration more seamless across the EU, enabling organisations of all sizes - from national authorities to small enterprises - to meet the requirements of the NIS2 Directive and the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) with greater confidence and efficiency.
The official launch of the project was marked by a two-day Kick-off Meeting held in Athens, Greece, on 14-15 January 2026, where consortium partners aligned on project objectives, governance structures, the technical roadmap, and the stakeholder engagement strategy.
The project is coordinated by ITML, with partners distributed across eight EU Member States. This geographically diverse and multidisciplinary collaboration ensures that DETANGLE solutions are grounded in real operational needs, adaptable across sectors, and aligned with both regulatory and market realities.
By combining regulatory intelligence, technical innovation, stakeholder engagement, and capacity-building activities, DETANGLE aims to deliver practical, scalable, and sustainable solutions that help organisations move from regulatory obligation to effective cybersecurity practice, contributing to a more resilient and compliant digital Europe.
